Artist in Residence – Brian Lynch

WISCONSIN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC WELCOMES BRIAN LYNCH Grammy© Award winning jazz trumpeter named 2010-2011 Jazz Institute Artist-in- Residence.

As the Jazz Institute’s Artist-in-Residence, Mr. Lynch will conduct three two-day visits to the Conservatory: November 9-10, February 23-24, and in concurrence with the annual Jazz Camp in June. During his visits he will offer private lessons to each of the twelve Jazz Institute Honor Students, conduct Masterclasses open to all Conservatory students, coach Conservatory Jazz Combos, and offer clinics and workshops in local schools with members of the Conservatory’s resident jazz faculty sextet We Six.

Summer Jazz Camp

17th Annual High School Jazz Camp • 2536 | $420
Registration/Payment Due by June 6
Ten days of straight-ahead jazz designed for serious players. Instrumentalists perform in small combos and participate in special performances. Learn about jazz history, improvisation and more. Merit scholarships and financial aid are available; be sure to inquire at the placement hearing.

Instructors: Mark Davis-camp coordinator, piano; Jamie Breiwick-trumpet; TBA saxophone; Paul Silbergleit-guitar; Jeff Hamann-bass; David Bayles-percussion.

Experience: Placement hearing required. Select one piece demonstrating technical ability and jazz knowledge. Accompaniment allowed but not provided. Please call Student Services at 414/276-5760 to schedule a time.

Placement Hearings: May 7, starting at 9:00am.
Grade Level: Entering 9th grade–college freshman

Jazz Add-a-Combo • 2537 | $120
Registration/Payment Due by June 6
Students accepted into High School Jazz Camp may sign up for an additional combo experience to take place after each morning camp session.

Big Band • 2538 | $90 for Jazz Camp participants, $120 for Big Band only
Registration/Payment Due by June 6
Join the Conservatory Big Band. Play classic charts by Basie, Ellington and Bob Mintzer under the direction of David Bayles. Focus will be on reading and ensemble skills. Students must audition for placement during Jazz Camp auditions. Preference will be given to those musicians who participate in Jazz Camp. Merit scholarships and financial aid are available; be sure to inquire at the placement hearing.

Intro to Jazz Camp • 2535 | $210

For the instrumentalist who wants to learn more about jazz, this two-week camp teaches the basics through listening sessions, demonstrations and performance opportunities. Open to middle and high school students.

Experience: Instrumental experience is required.
